Return to Magnetic Island

Holiday homes of Magnetic Island has for short or medium holiday rental, a quality, beautiful self-contained, beachfront cottage.

Magnetic Island is World Heritage listed and in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef, it enjoys over 300 days of sunshine a year. It is the only Great Barrier Reef Island with a permanent community living on the Island hence, holidaying on Magnetic means that you are not completely surrounded by other visitors, but you can mix, meet and socialise with the locals.

The island is eight kilometres off the coast from Townsville and there are frequent passenger ferry and vehicle barge services every day. Over three quarters of the Island is unspoilt National Park, there are many fine walking tracks, linking and descending into secluded bays, and up to the World War II forts and gun emplacements for magnificent 360 degree panoramic views of the Island and up and down the coast.

The Island abounds in natural wild life, with a myriad of bird species and the chance to see wallabies and koalas in the wild.

There are four distinct areas, Picnic Bay, Nelly Bay, Arcadia and Horseshoe Bay. While each bay has a character and attractions of its own, each has gently sloping sandy beaches, magnificent views either out to the Coral Sea, across to Cape Cleveland, or back to the lights of Townsville at night.

There is a superb supermarket with an excellent delicatessen section, butchers and fresh fish supplier. The cafe and restaurant choice covers Mediterranean, Mexican, Australian, Tropical, as well as superb fish and chips and a range of cafes and light meals.

To get around, walk, catch the bus, hire a moke, get fit on a bicycle or bring your own car from the mainland - the choice is yours.
