Schoolhouse Cottage - American River
Schoolhouse Cottage - American River

Situated right on the foreshore of the fishing village of American River, just metres from the wharf, boat ramp, tennis courts and children's playground, the Schoolhouse Cottage is a great location for your holiday on Kangaroo Island. Being midway between Penneshaw and Kingscote, you are also well positioned for exploring the rest of Kangaroo Island.

Early last century the cottage was once the local school. A modern rear section has been recently added, sympathetic to the original style.

The local waters are very sheltered and are ideal for all boating activities, including fishing, for which the area is renowned.

The bird life is abundant on both sea and land, with numerous species from large pelicans and swans on the foreshore.

There are scenic walking trails, where you can see Tamar wallabies, possums and echidnas. The wallabies also graze the grassy verges of the town's streets in the evenings.
