Return to Apsley

Ardwick Homestead is conveniently located on the Wimmera Highway between Edenhope and Apsley in Western Victoria and close to the South Australian border town of Naracoorte.

Ardwick has been home to five generations of the Reader family since James and Emma Reader selected the property in 1869 after arriving from Ardwick near Manchester.

A fully self-contained century old home with modern facilities, in complete privacy and accommodating up to nine persons, Ardwick Homestead is a popular holiday house for families or a group, couples or singles.

Set amongst the red gums and wetlands, century old pear trees shade the homestead verandahs making them a delightful spot to enjoy a BBQ or weather permitting sitting beside a camp fire under the bright West Wimmera stars is the place to indulge in a red (or white) wine.

From here you can enjoy the best of Victoria's West Wimmera region and South Australia's Limestone Coast.

Bring your bikes and cycle around the back roads, take a stroll around the paddocks, climb the rocks at Baileys Rocks State Park or take a 30-minute drive to the world heritage listed Naracoorte Caves and the Coonawarra Wineries.

In Apsley you can meander through 258 hectares of natural unspoilt bushland on the all weather walking track to the picturesque Newlands Lake. The easy 5km round walk takes you into amazing stands of stringybarks, banksias and rare orchids. The endangered red-tailed black cockatoo can often be seen feeding on the stringy barks.

Vibrant coloured parrots are a special feature of this area, it's fun to count how many different ones you can spot.

There's a swimming pool at Edenhope and both Edenhope and Apsley Golf Clubs welcome visitors and a tennis match can be played at any of the many courts nearby.
