The Wang Wauk and Bulahdelah State Forests cover 18,000 hectares of rugged ranges north of the town of Bulahdelah. The Pacific Highway runs north for about 10kms through these forests and the O'Sullivan Gap Flora Reserve. The Wang Wauk Forests Drive winds for 36-38kms through the forests, crossing over the highway in the process (2 alternative routes near the end of the drive). The drive takes the visitor through some of the largest stands of flooded gum trees in the state. Flooded gums are native to the wetter areas of eastern Australia, growing in the coastal districts of Queensland and New South Wales. The stands in the Bulahdelah and Wang Wauk State Forests are among the most southerly found in their natural state in Australia.
