Marthaville Guildry Craft and Gift Centre is open every weekend. The rooms of this historic home are filled with an extensive range of unique, locally handcrafted gifts, from which purchases may be made. It is really worth a visit.

Some of the items and gifts on display include beautiful baby dresses, bibs, booties, baby shawls and rugs, teddy bears, dolls, knee rugs, hand painted t-shirts, clothing items, embroidered towels, bags, hand painted glassware and porcelain, souvenirs, hand made cards, beadwork, and Christmas decorations, novelty items, and much more.

During the week, workshops are held in the function room, by groups including Wine Country Bear Club and Cessnock Floral Art Group.

Marthaville was built by George Brown. The twin-gabled homestead is the first sawn timber dwelling of the area, completed 1886 and named 'Marthaville' after his wife Martha.

Besides being a builder, saw miller, civil magistrate, district coroner and shire councillor, George Brown became a successful coal prospector.

In 1970 the homestead was occupied by his grand daughters. The purchase and renovation started as part of the bicentenary project and was handed over to the people of Cessnock. Sufficient funds were raised to turn it into a unique art and craft centre. Marthaville Guildry Craft and Gift Centre was established in November 1995.

Whilst at historic Marthaville, take the time to enjoy the ambiance and charm of Cessnock's oldest sawn timber home. Enjoy a stroll in the lovely gardens.

Craft markets are held at special times throughout the year, where stalls are set up in and around the building.

Special activities are planned for the following dates for 2008:

Saturday 13th September: Spring Craft Fair - Craft Markets.

Saturday 8th November: Spirit of Christmas - Craft Market Stalls.

Call in to Marthaville and enjoy a really unique experience, it really is worth a visit. Everyone welcome, admission is free. Coaches welcome by appointment.

Marthaville function room and gardens are available for bookings for exhibitions, small weddings and other functions.
