At the Mount Grenfell Historical Site you can find Aboriginal hand stencilling on the cave rocks. They did this by blowing or spraying mouthfuls of pigment around their hands. One of these depicts a hand with the top joints and the middle finger missing. Whether the author's finger was mutilated or folded under is an historic puzzle. Other art forms depict small animated stick figures engaged in dancing, hunting or ceremonial pursuits.
The age and significance of much of this art site is difficult to determine. Being illustrations of myth or tradition, or associated with totemic or other ceremonies, the choice of subject, colour and style has changed over the centuries in many areas.
The five-kilometre Ngiyambaa walk reveals the breathtaking scenery of the area.
The New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service has gridded all sites, mainly to prevent animals and people from damaging the art.
