Moree Plains Gallery - Moree
Moree Plains Gallery provides a rich cultural and educational experience an annual program of local and touring exhibitions as well as a range of other cultural events such as piano recitals, choral performances, art classes and workshops.
Moree Plains is known as Kamilaroi (also known as Gamilaroi) country to the local Aboriginal community of North West New South Wales, and the Gallery promotes and supports Aboriginal artists from this region with many exhibitions each year. In the Gallery’s permanent collection there are major works by indigenous and non-indigenous artists.
The Gallery also has a carved Myall Tree, created by Kamilaroi artist Lawrence Leslie under the patronage of the Moree Cultural Art Foundation. The Kamilaroi people traditionally incised living trees with symbolic and ceremonial designs. This carved tree pays tribute to that heritage.
