Anzac Memorial - Sydney
The memorial building is located at the southern end of Hyde Park on its central north-south axis. To the north is the pool of remembrance which is designed to reflect the image of the memorial itself. The building is raised on a square podium which houses offices for returned servicemens organisations. On the main podium is the main circular domed hall which is approached by wide ceremonial stairs from the north and south. Entrances to the lower level are from the east and west.
On each corner is a standing figure representing the army, navy, air force and the army medical corps, as do bas-relief panels below. Over the east and west entrances are bronze bas-relief panels, that on the side illustrates the eastern campaigns and that on the west the activities of the A.I.F. on the western front.
The exhibition gives a general background of the nine conflicts in which Australian servicemen have participated between 1885 and 1972.
Free daily tours 11:30am & 1:30pm. A recorded 'Act of Remembrance' is played daily at 11:00am.
