Slaters Country Store is an historic general store in Sheffield, northern Tasmania. Sheffield is an hour’s drive from Launceston (93 kilometres) and half and hour from Devonport (30 kilometres).

Established in 1899, Slaters Country Store has been operated for over 100 years by five generations of owner-managers. The historic building retains its original façade and broad veranda, and is located in central Sheffield. You can browse through the store’s range of merchandise including clothing and Tasmanian souvenirs. Look out for quirky features like the antique wall telephone and learn a little of some of Sheffield’s more famous murals.

Sheffield is known internationally for its collection of public murals, which depict the area’s rich history. Since 1986, dozens of murals have been painted in the town, ranging from large scale work by professional painters, to murals by local school children. Sheffield attracts over 100,000 visitors each year who come to admire this collection of public art. The town also hosts the annual Mural Fest – a national competition of mural art.
