Return to Onslow

The diving, snorkelling and fishing is world class at the Mackerel Islands off the coast of Onslow on the North West coast.

Clear turquoise water and glorious white sand beaches are perfect for swimming and relaxing.

Ten islands make up the Mackerels group which is also home to a pristine coral reef. There are many great snorkelling and dive sites where you can see colourful corals and reef fish, or snare a meal of crayfish.

The beaches and surrounding ocean provide plenty of ideal fishing spots. Spanish mackerel, snapper, red and spangled emperor, queen-fish, coral trout, yellow-fin tuna, cod and sailfish are just some of the fish you’re likely to reel in.

Many of the islands are virtually untouched making them a refuge for turtles and hundreds of species of birds.

Thevenard Island and Direction Island provide accommodation including beach front cabins.

The Mackerel Islands are 22 kilometres offshore from Onslow. There are regular boat cruises and island transfers available, or you can take a charter flight to Thevenard Island.

Onslow is a day and a half’s drive from Perth.
