Blue Mountains National Park

With the highest number of visitors of any national park in New South Wales, the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains NP is a feast of lookouts, bushwalks, wildflowers and wildlife. Only 105km west of Sydney, the park has some of the most spectacular rock formations and gorges in the state. Within the 2482km of bushland, the Three Sisters and the Grose Valley are popular spots. There are plenty of walking tracks, and camping, picnic and BBQ facilities. Well worth a visit are the cable cars at Scenic World, and the towns of Katoomba, Leura and Blackheath with lookouts for keen photographers. For the adventurous there is abseiling, rockclimbing and canyoning.

Named the Blue Mountains due to the blue haze that can be seen from Sydney created by light interacting with the vapour emanating from the millions of eucalypt trees. This rugged region features dramatic cliffs, rock formations, waterfalls and caves. more
