DESTINATION: BowralA popular town in the Southern Highlands, Bowral is well known for its country resorts, B&B's, and excellent cafes and restaurants. A highlight of the year is Tulip Time, an annual spring celebration with thousands of tulips and spring flowers blooming in both public and private gardens; some open to the public. The deciduous trees planted along the roadside highlight the change of the seasons and are another attraction for visitors. Main AttractionsThe Bradman Museum in St Jude Street is a must-see for cricket fans. The museum highlights Sir Donald Bradman's achievements, displays cricket memorabilia, and documents the origins of the game and its growth in Australia, the history of the Ashes and the Bradman era. The museum is open daily 10am-5pm. There is a self-guided walk, which takes in a number of sites around Bowral associated with Sir Donald. Called the Bradman Walk, it begins at the museum. Many buildings and houses built in the late 19th century have been beautifully preserved. Buildings of interest include the Court House, Municipal Chambers, St Jude's Church and Rectory. Merrigang, Wingecarribee and Bendooley sts are particularly attractive streetscapes. |
