Casino

Casino is located on the Richmond River 733km north of Sydney. The town has about 20 parks attracting a variety of wildlife. While the surrounding land is rich in timber, Casino is primarily a beef-cattle town with a meatworks and tannery.


Main Attractions

There are many historical buildings to be seen in Casino. The public school, built in 1861, and the Court House in 1882 are located in Walker St. The Casino Folk Museum, also in Walker St, exhibits mementos of pioneering days and a collection of early photographs. The museum is open Wednesdays and Sundays, 2.30pm to 4.30pm. There are numerous parks to enjoy in Casino with many located along the river. Jabiru Geneebeinga Wetlands, next to the golf course in North Casino, has an abundance of birdlife, including black swans, ducks, egrets and jabiru. Each Sunday, a miniature railway operates through the wetlands area.

Visitors can fossick for gold, labradorite, and smoky and clear quartz. Fishing for a variety of freshwater species is popular on the Richmond River and Cooke's Weir.
