DESTINATION: CootamundraThis crop-growing and grazing district 94km NE of Wagga Wagga, was the birthplace of Sir Donald Bradman. Famous for the wattle that bears its name, the time to visit Cootamundra is Wattle Time, July and August, to see the vivid colour displayed throughout the town. Main AttractionsThe information centre has brochures describing walking tours around Cootamundra. These include the Two-Foot Tour, a 1-2hr walking tour of the town's main sites; and the Captain's Walk, which includes a walk through Jubilee Park to see the busts of 11 famous cricketers. Bradman's Birthplace is a stop on the Two-Foot Tour and was the nursing home where Sir Donald was born. It is now a museum furnished in period-style and with displays of Bradman cricketing memorabilia. Located at 89 Admas St, it is open weekends and public holidays, 9am-5pm. The focal point of the CBD is the Bicentennial Post Office Plaza, which incorporates the historic Post Office building and clocktower. The grand old Railway Station has been refurbished and is also a busy Countrylink rail and coach connection. |
