DESTINATION: GraftonThe Clarence River almost encircles the city of Grafton, the commercial and cultural centre of the Clarence Valley. Beef cattle, timber and tourism are the mainstays of the district, while crops grown include maize, lucerne and sugarcane. Main AttractionsKnown as the 'Jacaranda City', Grafton is famous for its many attractive parks and gardens and the broad streets lined with jacaranda trees. The Jacaranda Festival is held Oct-Nov when the trees bloom, and attract thousands of visitors. The parks remain worthwhile visiting at any time of the year, particularly Market Square in Prince St; Memorial Park and Boulevard at the river end of Prince St; and the See Park Arboretum in Pound St. |

Nearby attractionsGrafton is centrally located for scenic drives to the fishing town of Maclean, on the Clarence River; Glen Innes, in the New England Ranges; and Iluka, Yamba, Wooli and Coffs Harbour on the coast. The historic river port village of Ulmarra is just 13km NE and 4 major national parks; Yuraygir and Bundjalung on the coast and Gibraltar Range and Washpool in the ranges; are a worthwhile daytrip.
