Hawks Nest

This small town is a coastal resort on the northern shores of Port Stephens. Popular as a quiet getaway, Hawks Nest is isolated from the bustle of Nelson Bay. Swimming, boating and fishing and many other watersports are available.


Main Attractions

There are many picnic and BBQ facilities around the area, including several riverfront reserves from Tea Gardens around to Winda Woppa. Both Jimmys and Bennetts beaches have picnic tables and the Lions Park has headland and harbour views. Koala Zone, off Kingfisher Ave, gives visitors the opportunity to see a colony of koalas in their natural habitat.

Dolphin-watching cruises on Port Stephens are available, as are cruises up the river to Myall Lakes NP. This national park is a favourite destination with both campers and boaties. There are 4 lakes, spectacular headlands, long expanses of beaches and sand dunes. Watersports are popular on the lakes and canoes, sailboards, catamarans and powerboats can be hired at Myall Shores. At Bulahdelah houseboats can be hired.
