DESTINATION: IlukaThis small fishing and resort town lies 20km off the Pacific Hwy at the mouth of the Clarence River. A regular passenger ferry service links Iluka, on the north shore, to the larger resort of Yamba on the south side of the river mouth. Both towns have their own commercial fishing fleets and attract keen anglers for the beach, rock, estuary and deep-sea fishing opportunities. Main AttractionsThe Iluka-Yamba passenger ferry offers river cruises to Harwood Island on Wednesdays and Fridays. There are also BBQ cruises on Wednesday and Friday evenings. Immediately behind the town is the World Heritage-listed Iluka Nature Reserve containing a remnant of what was once an extensive coastal rainforest. The seaward end of the park emerges at Iluka Bluff picnic area, where the short walk reveals a wonderful view of Iluka township and the Clarence River estuary. |
