DESTINATION: KatoombaThe major centre of the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains west of Sydney, Katoomba has been a famous resort for lovers of the mountains since the end of the last century. Main AttractionsThe Three Sisters are Katoomba's most famous natural attraction. This impressive rock formation is best seen from Echo Point, high above the Jamison Valley. An information centre is located at Echo Point. The Scenic Railway, located in Violet St, off Cliff Dr, is a heart-stopping ride for tourists. The Scenic Skyway and Sceniscender cable cars are also located in the Scenic World complex. For a step back in time, the Paragon Cafe, on Katoomba St, is the place to stop for morning or afternoon tea. Classified by the National Trust for its original Art Deco interiors, it is remembered by many generations for its delicious handmade chocolates. The Edge cinema, located on the Great Western Hwy, shows a spectacular movie of the Blue Mountains on a 6-storey-high screen. |

Jenolan Caves, 75km SW of Katoomba, offers a spectacular system of limestone caves, icy rivers and limestone formations. The partially restored silver-mining ghost town of Yerranderie is worth a visit. It is located 200km south via Oberon, the drive itself is an adventure over the 73km dirt road.
