DESTINATION: Manilla

Manilla

This small town is on the north-west slopes of the Great Dividing Range. A commercial centre, Manilla services the surrounding district of mixed farming, wheat, wool and cattle. The town is enhanced by a number of parks and is almost encircled by the Namoi River. The huge cartoon of a Murray cod outside the information centre announces Manilla is also a fishing destination.

Main Attractions

Manilla is well-known among gliding, paragliding and hang-gliding enthusiasts. Mount Baldwin and Red Jack Mountain are the local take-off spots for hang-gliders. Memorial Park in the town centre is a pleasant place to wander and watch the birds in the aviary. Royce Cottage is a National Trust-classified building housing a local history museum. Located in Manilla St, the museum is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons, or by appointment.
