Mittagong

Nestled in the valley of the Nattai River, Mittagong is the northern gateway to the Southern Highlands. It is an attractive town as many of the houses and public buildings have been built from the beautiful local sandstone.

Main Attractions

Mittagong is well-known for its art and craft shops. Embroiderers will want to visit historic Victoria House, which has the largest display of embroidery and needlework kits in Australia. Located on the Hume Hwy, it is open daily, 9am-5pm. The Sturt Craft Centre in Range Rd holds workshops for pottery, weaving, glass, textiles, wood and jewellery. Its gallery displays quality local crafts and is open daily, 10am-5pm. Mittagong is also a good base for walks in the Southern Highlands. One of the best walks in New South Wales begins here; the 7-day walk on the Barallier Track to Katoomba.
