DESTINATION: Mungo National Park
In outback New South Wales, Mungo NP, 278km, and Sturt NP, 3106km, can reach over 50C in summer. Therefore, they are best explored in the cooler months. Both national parks are of historic significance, and remote, semi-arid desert environments with 4WD access. Lake Mungo, now dry, is an archaeologist's dream, with bones, middens and artefacts dating back to the earliest human existence in Australia. The bones of the well-known Mungo Woman have been recently redated to 60 000 years old. Main Attractions
