DESTINATION: NaroomaA small town overlooking Wagonga Inlet, Narooma is 70km south of Batemans Bay. Timber, fishing and tourism are the main industries in Narooma. The surfing, family beaches, waterways and surrounding state forests make the town an appealing holiday destination. Nearby attractions
The historic gold-mining town of Central Tilba is 17km south of Narooma. Founded in 1894, the little mountain village has been classified by the National Trust. Late 19th-century buildings now house craft workshops and the Old Cheese Factory gives tastings of the famous Tilba Club cheese. Montague Island, 8km out to sea from Narooma, is popular for anglers in search of marlin. A flora and fauna reserve, the island is home to Australian fur seals and a variety of sea birds, including little penguins. Tours are run on the island by the National Parks and Wildlife Service and can be booked at the information centre. Diving schools also take people out to scuba dive with the seals off the island.
