DESTINATION: Narrabri

Narrabri

This town lies in the fertile Namoi River Valley, at the junction of the Narrabri Creek and the Namoi River. Cotton is the major industry of Narrabri, although the rich, black soil of the valley supports a diversity of agricultural products. Cotton, sunflower and a variety of other crops are processed at the Narrabri Oilseed Crushing Mill, one of the largest of its type in the country.

Main Attractions

During the cotton-picking season (April-July) tour guides explain the industry. Contact Narrabri Information Centre for details. The majority of the town's historic buildings are found in Maitland St, the main street, and Dewhurst and Bowen sts. The Old Gaol is now the local history museum and is open Saturday 9am-4pm. Town Walk and Town Drive leaflets are available from the information centre.
