DESTINATION: NowraThe commercial and tourist centre for the Shoalhaven Region, Nowra is located about 80km south of Wollongong on the southern bank of the Shoalhaven River. An 8-span steel bridge links the city with Bomaderry on the other side of the river. Bomaderry is the terminus of the rail link to Sydney. Nowra's main industries are milk processing, pulp and paper milling, fishing and flour milling. Main AttractionsNowra Animal Park, located on the western bank of the Shoalhaven River, has birds, and native and farm animals; some of which can be patted and hand-fed. Camping and BBQ facilities are available and visitors can enjoy light lunches or Devonshire teas at the riverside coffee lounge. The park is open daily, 9am-5pm. Owned by the Historic Houses Trust, Meroogal: Women's History Place, built in 1885, contains the original contents collected by 4 generations of mostly women. It is open for guided tours. Shoalhaven Historical Museum is on the corner of Kinghorne and Plunkett sts. |
