Queanbeyan

Situated at the junction of the Molonglo and Queanbeyan rivers, 12km SE of Canberra, Queanbeyan is the business centre of a wool-growing and mixed farming community.


Main Attractions

The Queanbeyan and District Historical Museum and the Queanbeyan Art Gallery are interesting attractions. The sunken gardens of Queanbeyan Park and Queen Elizabeth Park beside the Queanbeyan River are ideal picnic spots. Good views can be had from the lookout in Bicentennial Park.

Nearby attractions

Queanbeyan's location adjacent to the national capital, the snowfields, the scenic South Coast and historic towns make it an ideal base from which to explore. The major art and craft towns of Bungendore and Braidwood, both on Kings Hwy, have restored buildings, antique shops and lots of historic charm. Bywong Town Gold Mining Village, north of Queanbeyan, is a re-creation of the pioneering history of the 1850s. To the south-east at Captains Flat is Captains Flat Museum. For fishing, bushwalking, birdwatching and picnicking visit Googong Foreshores, 10km south, and Molonglo Gorge, 1km north.
