DESTINATION: YambaThis North Coast holiday resort and fishing town is located on the south side of the Clarence River, 693km north of Sydney. Main AttractionsThe beaches of Yamba, considered to have the warmest waters in New South Wales, are a major drawcard for visitors. The main beach is patrolled all summer and there is a rockpool, offering safe swimming year-round. Fishing is one of the most popular activities with anglers choosing from rock, beach, estuary and deep-sea fishing. Boats can be hired and there are fishing charters. Clarence River Ferries operate a regular passenger service to Iluka where there are even more fishing spots. The local seafood shops and restaurants supply fish bought straight from the fishing boats based in the Clarence River. Yamba Lighthouse stands 41m above the sea and its automatic navigation light beams out as far as 17km. From here, the views are excellent and it is worthwhile visiting at dusk when the fishing fleet heads out to sea. |
