DESTINATION: Adelaide River

The location for 30 000 Australian and US soldiers during WWII, this small town lies 112km SE of Darwin on the Stuart Hwy.

The Adelaide River War Cemetery, with the graves of 434 servicemen, is just to the north.

Nearby attractions

Historic Mount Bundy Station, 3km NE, offers a rural Territory experience, with fishing, walking and accommodation. Robin Falls, 15km south, flows for most of the year. Daly River Roadhouse and region, 114km SW, is a good locale for fishing and Aboriginal arts and crafts. Litchfield NP is close by, although the main entrance is via the Litchfield Park Rd, 27km north.

Half an hour south of Darwin, the Berry Springs Nature Park is a popular recreational area for locals.
