Wooroonooran NP boasts the 2 highest mountain peaks in Queensland: Mount Bartle Frere (1622 m) and Mount Bellenden Ker (1598m). Fit and experienced walkers can climb Mount Bartle Frere via a walking track, but Mount Bellenden Ker is not accessible. There are many scenic walks through the rainforest and the spectacular Josephine Falls is worthwhile visiting. The Boulders Wildland Park is 6km west of the town and offers a popular picnic and recreation spot. The park has many bushwalking tracks along Babinda Creek, at the base of Mount Bartle Frere. There are a series of waterfalls, mountain streams and swimming holes. Facilities in the park include change rooms, toilets and BBQs together with a basic camping area. Deeral, 14km north, is a departure point for cruises of the Mulgrave and Russell rivers, and the Frankland Islands. Visitors can cruise along the rainforest rivers and see saltwater crocodiles and other wildlife.
