DESTINATION: Childers
This small sugar town is located 53km south of Bundaberg. A National Trust town, Childers has many beautiful buildings and tree-lined streets. Although much of the town was destroyed by fire in 1902, the surviving buildings and rebuilding have resulted in a variety of architectural styles. Main Attractions
Childers Art Gallery, located in the main street upstairs in the Palace Building, 72 Churchill Street is considered one of the finest galleries in provincial Queensland and displays international, national and local art. The Backpackers Memorial is also housed in the same building. A historical street walk is available from the Visitors Centre. Open 7 days a week. The Childers Pharmaceutical Museum, which retains its original cedar fittings, displays apothecary records and equipment is located in the main street. Childers Multicultural Food, Wine and Arts Festival, held on the last weekend in July, is the largest of its kind in country Queensland. |

Most popular photosNearby attractionsWoodgate Beach is located 40 kms east of Childers - 16 kms of beautiful white sandy beach, surrounded by National Park and abundant wildlife. Apple Tree Creek - 6 Kms along Bruce Highway heading north is where you'll find Flying High Bird Habitat. This unique habitat houses a large amount of Australian Parrots and finches the fly freely within their aviary. The aviary covers an area of 5,000 sq metres and stands 7 metres high. Bakers Military Museum includes memorabilia from over 140 different countries dating back to the 1850's up until present day.
