Gladstone

Located 546km NW of Brisbane, Gladstone is one of the busiest ports in Australia, handling more than 30 million tonnes of cargo each year. The warm subtropical climate, beaches, rivers and reef islands ensure Gladstone is host to an increasing number of tourists each year.

Main Attractions

With a coastline of beaches, headlands and estuaries, fishing is a popular activity and the fishing fleet regularly brings in catches of export-quality fish, bugs, prawns, sea scallops and mud crabs. It is worthwhile visiting one of the many fine restaurants in the city to taste the fresh seafood. The Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum is located on the cnr of Goondoon and Bramston sts. Picnic and BBQ areas can be found in a number of city parks. Reg Tana Park includes Railway Dam which is inhabited by tame ducks, and closer to the city centre is Central Park, with a children's playground. Gladstone Marina is the departure point for fishing and scuba-diving trips on the Great Barrier Reef, and also to ferry visitors to the islands such as Heron Island.
