Situated around 30km from Toowoomba, Oakey is rich in historical and scenic attractions. National parks, the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast are all within easy reach of the town. Oakey features the country's largest Army Aviation Base. Industries in the town include malting, engineering works and export abattoirs. Main AttractionsA life-size statue of the racehorse, Bernborough, stands near the town's library. This famous racehorse was bred near Oakey and raced during the 1940s. Oakey Historical Museum is located on the Warrego Hwy. The Flypast Museum of Australian Army Flying is located at the army base and displays a large collection of original and replica aircraft and aviation memorabilia. |
