A number of 4WD tours and safaris operate out of Rainbow Beach to the Cooloola area of Great Sandy NP and to the World-Heritage listed Fraser Island. The beautiful coloured sands in the cliff faces adjoining Rainbow Beach are one of Queensland's most popular tourist attractions. |

Most popular photosNearby attractionsThe 400km Cooloola NP has been listed in the Great Sandy NP region, which is World Heritage listed. A 30min walk through Cooloola NP leads to the Carlo Sandblow, 16ha of sand mass that, in windy conditions becomes a vast expanse of moving sand. Other signposted walking tracks lead through subtropical rainforests to coloured sand dunes and Lake Poona which is surrounded by a sandy beach. The freshwater lake is popular for swimming and camping is allowed in designated areas; permits can be obtained from the Rainbow Beach Dept of Environment Information Centre. The town is the southern gateway to Fraser Island. Vehicular ferries depart from Inskip Point, 13km north. latest stories
