Nearby attractions

The 400km Cooloola NP has been listed in the Great Sandy NP region, which is World Heritage listed. A 30min walk through Cooloola NP leads to the Carlo Sandblow, 16ha of sand mass that, in windy conditions becomes a vast expanse of moving sand. Other signposted walking tracks lead through subtropical rainforests to coloured sand dunes and Lake Poona which is surrounded by a sandy beach. The freshwater lake is popular for swimming and camping is allowed in designated areas; permits can be obtained from the Rainbow Beach Dept of Environment Information Centre. The town is the southern gateway to Fraser Island. Vehicular ferries depart from Inskip Point, 13km north.
