The countryside around Richmond is known for its 'moon rocks'. These limestone rocks vary in size and can weigh tonnes. They carry the fossilised remains of fish, shells and trees. A display of moon rocks and a commemorative cairn can be seen at Lions Park, which is also a good place for picnicking. Moon rocks carrying fossilised remains are also displayed at the Richmond Fossil Centre. Fossils can be found at the designated fossicking site, 10km north. The Cambridge Downs ruins, about 30km north, are also worthwhile visiting.
