Cooberrie Park is a native flora and fauna sanctuary 15km north of town. Visitors can walk among the animals, handfeed the kangaroos and wallabies and hold a koala. Byfield NP, 32km north of Yeppoon, has mountains, rainforests, creeks and streams and is home to the unique Byfield ferns. Attractions in the park include Ferns Hideaway Wilderness Restaurant, Waterpark Cabins, Nob Creek Pottery, Wompoo Gallery and Byfield Pottery. Fascinating Koorana Crocodile Farm is located 38km SW. Rydges Capricorn Resort, 6km north, is surrounded by The Wetlands. There is a Wetlands Tour available and visitors may be able to spot over 150 species of birds. The Keppel Group of islands is one of the region's main features. Located 13km offshore, daytrips to Great Keppel Island are offered. Cruise boats to the island and fishing charters leave from Keppel Bay Marina and Rosslyn Bay Harbour. The island has a resort, and activities on offer include snorkelling and scuba diving from the beaches. On the mainland at Wreck Point, south of Cooee Bay, a lookout offers panoramic views over the group of islands. At Emu Park, 19km south, is an interesting memorial to Capt Cook known as The Singing Ship, because when the wind blows the hidden organ pipes within the sculpture vibrate and seem to 'sing'.
