Normanville | South Australia

Established in 1849, the seaside town of Normanville is located near the mouth of the Bungala River on the Fleurieu Peninsula. In the early years, this scenic stretch of coastline witnessed several shipwrecks; the Mary Smith in 1856, the cutter Teaser in 1859, and The Rose in 1875. Today, the town makes up part of the holiday triangle that includes Yankalilla, 3km west, and Carrickalinga, 2km north. The area is very popular with beach lovers and anglers and the 2 large caravan parks are often booked out in summer months.

Main Attractions

The extensive beaches are ideal for swimming, surfing, boating, fishing and horse-riding. Walking tracks penetrate the sand dunes behind the beaches, which are heritage listed. The historic Court House (1855) has been converted into a restaurant (open Wed-Sun). The town also boasts the Fleurieu Fishing Festival and Surf Lifesaving Triathlon in summer.

South of Normanville is the huge Marina St Vincent, the Paradise Wirrina Cove Resort and the Links Lady Bay Golf development. Rapid Bay is known for its imposing cliffs, caves and beaches and for the long wharf, where anglers love to drop a line. It is also a renowned diving spot. The RAN's scuttling of HMAS Hobart in Yankalilla Bay provides an excellent wreck dive.
