DESTINATION: Tanunda

Tanunda

This busy, properous town developed from the village of Langmeil, the valley's second German settlement in 1843. The town is in the heart of the Barossa wine region, an important stopover for visitors to the area. Tanunda offers history, art and a vine-to-wine display.

Main Attractions

The town's German heritage has been preserved in its fine churches, specialty bakeries and small-goods shops. The art and craft shops feature locally-produced painted woodware, pottery and glassware. In St Hallet Rd, the Keg Factory produces handcrafted kegs and barrels. Historic Goat Square is located at the centre of the original town and the old streets are fascinating and best explored on foot. Barossa Historical Museum, in Murray St, is housed in the former Post Office (1865). Tanunda Recreation Reserve, located in Elizabeth St, is home to a swimming pool, bowling and RSL clubs.
