DESTINATION: Tumby Bay
Around 50km from Port Lincoln, Tumby Bay is situated on the east coast of the Eyre Peninsula. It is a quiet rural centre servicing a wheat and sheep-farming area and a local fishing industry. Popular with holidaymakers, the sheltered bay is lined with a white sandy beach and provides a scenic view for a variety of water-based activities, including excellent fishing. Main AttractionsThere are several art and craft outlets in town that welcome browsers, in particular Rotunda Art Gallery and Tumby Cottage Crafts. A recreation area edges the foreshore of Tumby Bay and there are picnic and BBQ facilities at the southern lookout reserve. The Interpretive Mangrove Boardwalk, near the causeway at the southern end of the bay, crosses the mangroves and has signs explaining their ecological importance. There are 2 museums in the town centre, the C L Alexander National Trust Museum and the Excell Blacksmith and Engineering Workshop Museum, both are well worth investigating. |

Most popular photosNearby attractionsTumby Bay Charters offer fishing cruises and trips to Sir Joseph Banks Group Islands lying some way offshore. The islands are recognised for their excellent fishing grounds and wealth of birdlife. There is also the opportunity to observe sea-lions basking in the sun or an aquatic ballet of dolphins. The town of Koppio is 30km SW where visitors can discover the Koppio Smithy Museum. It features an authentic blacksmith's shop, cottages, schoolhouse and heritage hall with stationary engines and horse-drawn vehicles.
