Bridport on Anderson Bay, 85km NE from Launceston, developed as a port for the timber, agricultural and mining industries; it still retains its seaport atmosphere.

Bridport is a popular holiday destination and most visitors come for the pristine sandy beaches and excellent river and ocean fishing. Bridport Wildflower Reserve is at its best in spring when plants are in full bloom.

The Bowood Homestead (1838), 8km west, and its magnificent gardens are open by appointment and at selected times during the year. Pipers Brook Vineyard the most recognised Tasmanian wine label, is 18km SW. Bridport is an ideal base for exploring the rugged north-east coastline. Flinders Island, the largest of the Furneaux Group in Bass Strait, is accessible either by car ferry or light plane. This holiday island for the adventurous has beautiful beaches, unique wildlife, fishing, diving, bushwalks and Strzelecki NP, dominated by Mount Strzelecki (756m).
