Cygnet

Cygnet is a small rural town at the head of Port Cygnet, 52km SW of Hobart. Apple orchards and mixed farming are the main industries, with flower farms and wineries established in recent years.

Art and craft shops are worth visiting, and the Cygnet Guest House in Mary St has woodcraft and an art gallery.

Nearby attractions

Excellent beaches can be found at Verona Sands, Randalls Bay and Eggs and Bacon Bay. Other activities include boating, fishing, gem-fossicking and visiting orchards and wineries. Apple, pear and wattle blossoms colour the local landscape from September to October. The spectacular free-falling Pelverata Falls are 20km north on Sandfly Rd. The Deepings Woodturners, at Nicholls Rivulet 10km east, make beautiful high-quality dolls, bowls and other items from Tasmanian timbers, especially sassafras. Talune Wildlife Park and Koala Gardens, 6km SE at Gardners Bay, is a mostly free-range wildlife park with native wildlife, including platypus, wombats and of course Tasmanian devils.
