DESTINATION: Wild Rivers National Park
Located only 180km from Hobart, the 4463km Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers NP is home to Tasmania's longest river, the Franklin, as well as the Collingwood, Gordon, Jane, Governor and Denison rivers. Myrtle beeches and Huon pine dominate the rainforests while elsewhere there are eucalypt forests, heaths, boglands and buttongrass plains. Access to the northern end of the park is via the Lyell Hwy. A 4WD track from Queenstown, requiring a permit, ends near the Franklin River. The best way to explore the surrounds is by foot; enjoying one of the many walks that leave the Lyell Hwy. Alternatively, cruises and float-planes depart from Strahan for the lower Gordon River. Main Attractions
