DESTINATION: Longford

Longford

One of Tasmania's oldest towns, Longford was established in 1813 by settlers from Norfolk Island. Now it is the centre for a fertile agricultural district.


Main Attractions

There are many historic buildings, some convict-built. Christ Church (1839) has beautiful stained-glass windows and is sur-rounded by pioneer graves. Heritage Corner complex on Marlborough St includes Tom Roberts Gallery and tearooms. The Village Green is a popular picnic and BBQ spot.

Nearby attractions

Brickendon, an 1824 homestead 2km south, is now a working farm village. Woolmers Estate (circa 1816) 5km SE, has a rose garden, colonial cottages, tearooms and guided tours.
