DESTINATION: Oatlands
The historic lakeside township of Oatlands, 84km north of Hobart, was proclaimed by Governor Macquarie in 1827. Main AttractionsThe Georgian sandstone buildings are a big attraction and there are 87 of them in High St alone! The convict-built Court House (1829), St Peters Church (1888), St Pauls Church (1850) and Callington Flour Mill (1837) are notable. Extra local colour is provided on evening 'ghost' tours by lantern light. Dulverton Wildlife Sanctuary is a lakeside picnic and camping reserve. There are antique and craft shops in town and guided tours of the Aquaculture Centre. |
