DESTINATION: Sorell

Sorell

Founded in 1821, Sorell played an important part in Tasmania's early European history, by supplying most of the colony's grain. The settlement was brazenly captured in 1824 by bushranger Matthew Brady, who imprisoned the garrison and most of the citizens. Sorell is an important tourist link between Hobart, the Tasman Peninsula and the East Coast.

Main Attractions

Interesting buildings from colonial times include St George's Church (1826), Scotts Church (1842) and Blue Bell Inn (circa 1863). Pioneer Park is popular for BBQs and picnics. Orielton Lagoon is a significant bird sanctuary with many species.
