DESTINATION: Triabunna

Triabunna

Triabunna is located on Spring Bay, 86km NE of Hobart. Once it was a whaling base and garrison town for the nearby Maria Island penal settlement. Today, the town's mainstays are the woodchipping, scallop and abalone industries.

Main Attractions

A town walk from the visitor centre takes in 17 heritage buildings, the oldest being the Police Watch-house and Magistrates Office (both 1840s). The visitor centre has interpretative displays and interesting tapestries. A Seafarers' Memorial on the Esplanade commemorates sailors lost in Tasmanian waters. Pioneer Park has displays of historic farm machinery from the region.
