DESTINATION: Apollo Bay
Apollo Bay is set on the coast with excellent surfing and swimming beaches and the Otway Ranges as a backdrop. Located 183km SW of Melbourne, it is a thriving tourist centre and the base for the local Bass Strait fishing fleet that supplies local and overseas markets. Main AttractionsThe local historical museum is housed in the Old Cable Station, where the original telephone cable between Tasmania and the mainland came ashore. Situated on the Great Ocean Rd, it is open 2pm-5pm weekends, and school and public holidays. Bass Strait Shell Museum, in Noel St, displays a collection of shells and old photographs of shipwrecks, which litter the coast. |
