Buninyong | VictoriaThe small township of Buninyong is located 10km south of Ballarat. It was one of the first inland towns in Victoria and was also the site of the district's first gold find at Hiscocks Gully in 1851. After the goldrush, Buninyong once again became an agricultural centre. Main AttractionsSeveral buildings are of historic interest. The Crown Hotel claims to hold the oldest continuous licence, dating from 1842, although the first hotel on the site burnt down in 1884. The Italianate Council Chambers and Court House were both built in 1882. Some walks in the town worthwhile taking include the Town Walk, picked up at the junction of Warrenheip and Learmouth sts. This route passes through the Botanic Gardens, planted in the 1860s, where there are picnic facilities. Another walk follows Buninyong Creek. |
