Clunes

The site of Victoria's first registered gold strike; Clunes is located 36km north of Ballarat. Extinct volcanoes surround the historic town, providing an interesting view.


Main Attractions

The Town Hall and Court House give a sense of Clunes' influential past. Several buildings are classified by the National Trust. The Bottle Museum, located on Talbot Rd, boasts the largest collection of bottles in the Southern Hemisphere; it is also home to the information centre and tearooms. The Creek Walk takes visitors out to Port Phillip Mine, which crushed more than 1.3 million tons of quartz yielding 16 tons of gold.
