DESTINATION: DaylesfordThe 'Spa Centre of Australia', comprising the twin towns of Daylesford and Hepburn Springs. This is a popular destination for short breaks and is located 115km NW of Melbourne. A picturesque town, the surrounding area has lakes, forests, relics from the goldmining era and Australia's largest concentration of natural mineral springs. There are at least 65 mineral springs in the Daylesford and Hepburn Springs region. Main AttractionsA mineral bathhouse is located at Hepburn Spa Resort, in the Hepburn Mineral Springs Reserve. Both public and private baths, flotation tanks and a sauna are offered. There are a number of practitioners in the district providing massage and natural therapies. Convent Gallery houses fine art, pottery, antiques and a superb collection of jewellery. The town's history is displayed in the Historical Society Museum housed in the old School of Mines, which was once used for smelting and refining gold and is easily identified by the tall brick chimney. Maps of the Tipperary Walking Track; part of the Great Dividing Trail; from Lake Daylesford to Hepburn Mineral Springs Reserve, are available from the information centre. Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens and Lookout are popular. Lavandula Lavender Farm has a beautiful garden, farmyard animals, a restaurant and a variety of lavender-based products are offered for sale. |
