Gisborne

Jacksons Creek flows through the town of Gisborne, which lies in the foothills of Mount Macedon. Gisborne is a pretty little town, about 52km from Melbourne.

Main Attractions

There are many art and craft shops in the town. Jacksons Creek and Gisborne Botanic Garden offer recreation areas and picnic facilities. Mount Gisborne Wines in Watersun Rd specialises in chardonnay and pinot noir. The winery is open for tastings and sales on weekends. Barringo Wildlife Reserve is an area of natural bushland which protects native wildlife. There are also deer, peacocks and a lake well stocked with trout.

Nearby attractions

The township of Mount Macedon is north of Gisborne. Here, in the late 1800s, wealthy residents of Melbourne built estates to escape to during summer. Visitors continue to visit the old homes and grand European-style gardens, despite so many of them being devastated in the 1983 bush fires. Springtime flower shows and open garden days are a highlight of the area.
