DESTINATION: KorumburraSituated 118km SE of Melbourne, Korumburra is surrounded by dairying country and is a regional cattle-sales centre. The Bass Valley, north-east of Korumburra, is home to the rare and protected giant Gippsland earthworm, known as Karmai to the Aborigines. The worms can grow to an amazing 3m in length and 2.5cm in diameter. Main AttractionsCoal Creek Heritage Village, south of the town centre, is a re-creation of the coal-mining days of the 1890s. Features include the original Coal Creek Mine Tunnel, a bush tramway and authentic settlers' cottages. There is also a simulated mine explosion daily. |
